A Lost Nikki, A Very True Story

by Nichie

This is a true story about my brofur, Nikki, who we thought was lost and long gone. It happened like this… Meowmie and Paw were getting ready to go on a week’s cruise, so Paw decided it would be better to pay for a ride to and from the seaport where the ship was docked.

So the day they were due to depart, the driver (a person Paw knew) came to the house to pick them up. He was a loud, boisterous man and scared both Nikki and I. We went and hid to get away from him. He had shown up way too early so Meowmie and Paw ask him to please sit down and wait while they just finished up and made sure everything was in order before they would leave the house.

Well this man, whom we will call Abe (which is in fact his real name) got impatient and started moving the baggage downstairs - but what he did, he left the front door wide open! When Meowmie came out of her room and saw the door wide open she got very upset and worried that maybe one of us had run out the door. She started screaming to Paw to help her find all of us and both of them did a roll count.

Meowmie said, “Nichie, Nikki, Gingercats where are you?” She found Gingercats first. Then she said, “Now where are Nikki and Nichie?” She and Paw looked and looked and finally I came out of hiding and showed up. They looked under beds, the sofa, chairs, closets, and every room. Meowmie and Paw kept looking all through the house but no Nikki! Meowmie became frantic. Both she and Paw went outside to look for him. We could hear them going through the streets and in the bushes calling, “Nikki, Nikki.” The both came upstairs and Meowmie was in tears. Paw told Abe to leave - that they could not go without finding Nikki.

Mewmie said she would forget the cruise - because she would not leave without finding Nikki and would never go if he were lost somewhere outside - a place he was never allowed to go! Paw was frantic and Meowmie was too.

Both went downstairs again and looked up and down the street for Nikki - calling.], “Nikki, Nikki where are you, Nikki?” But Nikki was not found.

Meowmie returned upstairs and really started crying. Gingercats and I tried to make her feel better but she just kept on weeping. While we were sitting there watching her, out came Nikki from inside a chair he hid in! Yes, he found his way up inside a Lazy Boy chair where no one could find him. Meowmie was so surprised and happy to see Nikki that she went yelled, “Paw, look, oh look, Nikki is here! He was hiding but he his here.” She picked up Nikki and hugged and kissed him and was so happy to see him. Yes, she was so very happy. And Paw was too because now it meant they could go on their vacation and their neighbor would still come by everyday to watch us, feed us and change our litter.

So Paw ended up driving his car to the seaport and leaving it there for a week while they were on vacation. But both Meowmie and Paw really had a great time because they knew all of us were home safe and sound.
