The Day the World Changed
by Nikki, Nichie and their meowmy, Sue
Tuesday, September 11, 2001 marks the day the world changed for everyone.
The ensuing events of the terrorists on their suicide mission while taking
along with them countless lives and property and destroying the icons of
America will never be forgotten in days or years to come.
Watching the news of and about that fateful day is etched in our hearts
and minds. The range of emotions we have been experiencing are so
conflicted that it leaves us feeling helpfless and vulnerable. On one
hand we are so very sad and full of despair for these horrible events and
yet on the other hand we are so very angry that this happened. We cry
when we hear of those many who died and of their families who are
suffering and at the same time we are filled with such anger that it
scares us. For you see, we were under the false assumption that we are in
control. But we have learned this is not the case. No matter how much
you may think you can control your life, and situations and events, you
really can not. Some things are just out of control and no matter how
hard you may try, you can not put it back into focus.
Now we must extend a hand and help those who are suffering. We must be
their strength in this time of crisis. We must awaken our sense of
nationalism and as a country unite to work and put our lives back
together.
Yes, Tuesday, September 11, 2001 is the day our whole world has changed.
It is the day of our awakening and realizing how much our democracy and
country actually mean to us. It is a day of sadness too - because we
realize that we are not as secure as we thought - we are not isolated from
violence. But we can turn this around and become stronger and more
caring. We can unite as the worlds' people against violence and work
together for the cause of world peace.
