Mystery in Black & White
By BlackJack
One fine Summer night, I was sitting in the window, as I usually do, and
just watching the activities outside. There was very little going on, and
I had just about decided to go and have a nice catnap when I heard
something making a strange noise outside. I perked up my ears then, and
started peering outside, trying to see what was there. I called to my
brofur and sisfur to come over too, this sounded like a critter that
needed three pair of cat eyes to see.
There continued to be a weird
rustling in the bushes outside, and we all looked and looked to no avail.
What in the world was out there? Our kitty curiousity was piqued! We all
ran to the other window to see if we could get a glimpse of this creature.
It was a very dark night though, and even our sharp eyes could see
nothing. Oh, if we could just get outside! We all kept looking, running
to and fro from window to window, but we could only hear the sounds the
creature was making. No matter how hard we looked, we could not see
anything! All three of us cats were becoming frustrated at not seeing
what was out there!
One time, we thought we caught a glimpse of white,
but that was the only hint we had. What could be out there??? Then, I
had an idea! Let's wake meowmie up, maybe she will hear it too, and go
outside and see what was there. So all three of us cats jumped up on
meowmie's bed and proceeded to wake her up and pester her until she
finally got up.
She figured we were hungry, but we all ran to the window
and meowed loudly, then ran to the door and really began to meow for all
we were worth. Our curiousity began to wear off on Meowmie, she could tell
something was going on, and that there must be something outside.
She
opened the door, with all of us crowding around trying to get outside to
check it out purrsonally. Three pair of green eyes widened to the size of
full moons when we saw what was outside. There sitting nonchalantly on
the porch was a skunk! A "black and white pussycat" as some would
innocently say. Oh my! We could get a whiff of the skunk smell and so
could Meowmie! Luckily our mysterious visitor didn't spray us, it just
sat there and looked at us with little brown eyes. It looked hungry, so
of course silly Meowmie carefully put some dry cat food outside, then
hurriedly closed the door.
The mystery of the rustling was finally solved,
and I was sure happy we had not been able to venture outside and maybe
have a smelly encounter with Mr. Skunk. We will always remember our
little skunk visitor, who made such interesting noises out hunting for
something to eat.
