Escape To Paradise
by Boomer
Yokat walked around his dumpy old house. His owner was sitting on the ripped up couch, eating chips, candies, and a slice of pizza, watching Full House on TV. Yokat walked to his food dish. Still empty like it had been for two weeks. He licked the last drop of water and walked out on the balcony, watching the cars rush past on the busy street. He turned to a stairway. It had a locked gate he'd always been trying to get past. He sighed and meowed, howled, and hissed. His owner yelled at him, not even bothering to turn around. Yokat ran around the house looking for an exit. "Stop being so crazy!" shouted his owner. Yokat walked into his litter box that needed a big change of litter, then to his bed where half of it was ripped up and the other dirty. He meowed quietly. His owner never cared for him.A week later, Yokat's ribs continued to show, his skin and fur looking droopy. His owner had left the house. He howled. Again, he walked onto the balcony and glanced at a destroyed box. He looked to the left. The gate was unlocked! He meowed happily, and ran down the steps, purring. He soon got to the concrete.
"Watch out, pussy!" "Move you cat!" and "Aww, what a poor kitty!" were some of the shouts heard as Yokat darted across the sidewalks, lawns, and roads. Horns beeped. Yokat stopped. A wonderful aroma drifted from a corner. It smelled slightly old, but delicious. He followed the smell into an alley. A large piece of about two-day old fish was lying by a trash can. He walked over and gobbled it down. He smelled about three other meals and ate what he could find till many of his hunger pangs were gone. He passed by restuarants where he was given a dish of cream, or possibly a plate with a small piece of chicken. He passed by libraries, statues, parks, schools, and many tall buildings.
He passed a cat sanctuary. Someone picked him up and brought him inside the paradise. He was treated good forever, never to be abused again.
