Me and the Conscientious Objectors
By Playful
One fine day I was off to work along with the rest of my fellow ants, some
two thousand or so. And we were headed off to one of our favorite plants,
a tomato plant that a couple of tomato worms had broken into and given us
easy access to the fruit. Well, we hadn't reached our target when we were
met by a flank of picket carrying ants! I read their stupid sign. It said,
"heck no, we won't go!"
I have no idea why they object to a tomato plant.
And since I was in the lead as a scout, I was the one to ask about this.
They said, "we are protesting wars!"
I said, "Fine! Protest all you want.
But what are you doing by being in our way?"
"We want to keep you from
going into battle."
"Battle?" I asked as I scratched my red head. "We are
going to get food for our colony from yon tomato plant....is that battle
to you?"
"Oh, so sorry, we thought you were army ants!"
I thought to myself, who let these ignoramuses out of their shell? And
what were they going to do when some black ants wanted to take over our
hill? Well, mine was not to reason why. It was to go on and finish the
task. So off we went to the tomato plant with no more incidents.
