Opportunity in a Box
by Mewsette
I'd like to give an opportunity to my mom. I know there are lots of opportunities she would like. They probably all involve lots of money, a fancy computer, or an honest literary agent dropping outta the sky onto our porch. Hmmm, I'm not good at making things do that. But I know how bad she wants an opportunity to visit all our grandchildrens. We got four of them, all down in Texas, everything from a little short one to a big tall man one. I'm older than most of them. And Mom needs a way to visit them that does NOT involve dragging me along! That's the main requirement in my book. I get a lot of special care that the catsitter or the neighbor can't do, so my mom has two choices. Stay home with me or take me with her. I got taken with her last year, and I do NOT want to repeat that experience! And I know Mom misses all those family humans down there, especially this time of year. She can't drive a long way any more, so somebody else is gonna have to drive. Okay, that part's figured out. Now, drive what? There's such a big bunch of them, it would take a bus to hold them all. I get a headicke just thinking about so many humans in one place. Maybe my own place! Eeek! Well, I could hide in my nest under the sewing table.
How does a bus full of humans go someplace? They all get tickets to go on a tour bus that has a paid driver. They do lots of that here in the Ozarks, kinda like renting the bus for a week. Okay, a bus is good but it won't go in a box. Tickets will. Lotsa tickets! For big ones and childrens and everybody. The opportunity for Mom to see all her family can translate into a box full of tickets for a nice, big, fancy tour bus. That's the one I would give my mom in a box. So I want all those tickets to put in the box. And I always get what I want.
Then it's up to my mom to go mail the box to Texas. I can't do that part. I'd be busy getting my hidden nest ready for a long stay in it.
