Panic in a Tree
by Chloe
Being a rescue kitten, you might think my greatest day of panic was the day I left my foster home; but no, that wasn't it....my foster mom had told me I was going to my forever home and I was okay with that. You might think my greatest day of panic was meeting my big sisfur who wasn't really happy with my being there and hissed and growled at me...no, that wasn't it....my foster mom and new mom had told me my sisfur Annie would need some time to adjust and even though I'm a calico, I am quite the sensible kitten.Nope, it was neither of those days...it was the day I discovered the TREE!
Being in a new house, there was so much to see and do and learn...all the rooms and where my food dish was and where my water was and where the litter box was and what was on that shelf or under that chair and for several days I was quite busy...that was only when my mom let me out of the safe room...actually I let myself out one night..the door didn't latch well, so after that mom decided to just let me roam around. After several days of running and searching and finding...I discovered the TREE!
In the corner of the living room across from the box with the moving pictures (Annie says that's called a TV), there's a very tall TREE with lots of shelves and tunnels and littles houses... the first few days I just went through the tunnel and up into the little house, then my curiosity got the best of me and I just had to go to the TOP! Well, I managed to hop up to the top of the TREE and for awhile I sat on the very highest shelf and surveyed my new house and then I decided to take a nap... it was quite comfy there and I napped for quite awhile. Then I noticed mom was getting dinner and I realized that I was quite hungry (I'm often quite hungry...after all I'm a growing kitten!). Then I looked down... it seemed to be a very long way to the floor and dinner... what was I going to do! I wanted my dinner! I mewed and mewed but I have a furry soft voice and mom couldn't hear me.... oh dear! Well, I started to walk down one of the branches of the tree and I slipped!! Oh my! But that was okay, I only slipped to the shelf below... but what was I going to do now? I wanted my dinner!! I went down another branch and slipped again!! and kept slipping!! I thought I was going to go smoosh on the floor.. but no, I pretended to be a monkey and sort of swung down from the TREE.. as it turned out that was the best thing to do and I finally got my dinner!
Now I've grown big enough to come down like a kitty and don't have to pretend to be a monkey anymore and I always get my dinner!
