September Song: The Journey to Rainbow Bridge

by Spyder, MGD, & Blackjack

Rascal was an old cat, his years had reached the grand total of 20, and he was getting very tired. He knew his time here on Earth were winding down, and he thought often of the Rainbow Bridge, where he would meet with his old housemates and other kitty friends. Mew-Mew was the next oldest cat in the house, and she was 19 years old, and the two of them had been together for the full 19 years. She too knew that time was approaching when she must make that final journey. The two of them would sit together, sharing the sunlight streaming in the window. It actually was September right now, and the leaves were beginning to turn colorful shades of orange and red, and with the grey skies, nature seemed to be mimicking the two orange tabbies with grey around their mouths. They reminisced about the old days when they were but young kittens, prowling around the large house, finding all manner of dust balls to chase and imaginary mice lurking in the shadows.

Mew-Mew remembered her first meeting with Rascal so well, the two of them cautiously approached and Mew-Mew gave her characteristic "mew mew" that had given her the name she bore. They had become fast friends right from the start. It was so comforting to share these senior years with each other. Both moved much more slowly now, and they ran anywhere, preferring to leisurely walk to their food bowls. Rascal was so glad to have Mew-Mew here, the two of them were such a perfect pair, being the same colors even though not related at all. He would sing to her of the Rainbow Bridge, and they would imagine what it would be like to feel young again. Sometimes meowmie would play a special song just for the two of them. They both loved Willie Nelson, having heard him so often in their youth, as their parents would dance around the floor, and the love just flowed through the house. September Song was their favorite, and now, as the days indeed dwindled down, they loved the sweet melody and their eyes would get a faraway look as they listened. Mew-Mew and Rascal knew their days were indeed short, and while they would miss their family, they knew that they would forever be together, paws linked, whiskers touching, and all the love they shared would fill the very heavens.

September Song
by Willie Nelson

Oh, it's a long, long while
From May to December
But the days grow short,
When you reach September.
When the autumn weather
Turn leaves to flame
One hasn't got time
For the waiting game.

Oh the days dwindle down
To a precious few . . .
September, November . . .
And these few precious days
I'll spend with you.
These precious days
I'll spend with you.

Oh the days dwindle down
To a precious few . . .
September, November . . .
And these few precious days
I'll spend with you.
These precious days
I'll spend with you.
These precious days
I'll spend with you.
