Musical Bonding
by Tramp
My eyes flutter open, catching the last rays of a sultry sunset glinting off the frost covered window. With a luxurious stretch, I tap my paws on meowmie. She jumps for a moment, looking down to find me rubbing up against her in expectation. Smiling, she flips off the computer, cuddles me close, grabs a book, and switches on the soft mewsic station. Thus begins our evening ritual of relaxation and bonding. Soft mewsic plays an important role between meowmie and I, because it sets the mood for our time together. We are both busy individuals; I must watch the window to make sure the world isn't ending, and she earns toonas to buy my cat food. We don't get much time together, as her work keeps her away from home for weeks at a time. When we are together, we both need something soft and relaxing to help us shed away the tension of work and life in general. Music helps us remember the importance of tranquility and love. Meowmie and I are able to relax and reconnect more when she plays mewsic.
Not just any mewsic works, however; soft mewsic is the most relaxing to us. When mewmie was young and lived with her own meowmie, she was angry a lot of the time, and played rock and rap to go with her mood. When she saw how uptight that mewsic made me, she started playing soft rock because it made me purr more. After awhile, she realized it helped her relax, too! Because soft mewsic helps us both relax, we prefer it for our together time.
The last chords die away, my purrs fading into peaceful sleep with them. Meowmie looks down at my trusting, relaxed form and slowly puts her book away. She lays down beside me, and watches me for a few more songs, her eyes tracing my tabby stripes. After her own eyes have fluttered closed, she sleepily clicks off the radio and rides into dreamland with me. Soft, happy music tinkling in our ears, we float off to dreamland together. Where would we be without the music? Who knows...
