Autumn In The Air
by Kitty the Great
Autumn is here now. It arrived last Saturday, around 2:20 pm. That's when Paw got out the lawn tractor. I was sunning myself in my kitchen window as I usually DO on a pleasant Saturday afternoon. The window was open; a light, cool, breeze filtered in through the forysthia bushes, and I was watching 2 little birds playing in the birdbath. Then came the ROOOAR of the tractor! Paw, chugging up the back hill. THAT is when Autumn arrived! I could smell it in the air. Not the sweet smell of summer grass being mown. No. This was the musty, woody, tail twitchy smell; the scent that comes with grass and rotting leaves and twigs being mulched together. It was mixed with the faint smokey aroma of leaves being burned in a distant neighbors yard, and it travelled to my nose on that brisk breeze. *Sniiiiiiiiffffff* Ahhhhh... *sigh*... I LOVE the smell of Autumn, and all it brings with it.
