Ship's Cat
by Tiddler
My name it is Mowskillerkit,
I sail the seven seas,
I'm on a lifelong mystery tour,
To wherever the captain please. Our ship, it is the "Unicorn"
To her, our lives we owe.
She's held us safe on stormy nights
In swirling, blinding snow.Amongst icebergs near Newfoundand,
Or Norway's blasting storm,
In frosty, freezing weather,
In the engine room, I'll keep warm.My ancestry goes way back,
To the cat of Captain Kidd,
He saw the battles that Kidd fought,
And where his treasure's hid.I've seen palm trees of Jamaica,
And dolphins on the way,
I have sailed the rough Atlantic,
To a quiet, sandy bay.One of the things I do aboard,
To earn my keep or pay,
Is catch the mice or insect pests.
What better game to play? The rats who try to board our boat,
Along the ropes at night,
See vigilant eyes, aglow at them,
And soon run off in fright. My shipmates like the job I do,
I do it to perfection,
Not only keep the pests away,
But give and take affection.A ship that is without a cat,
Is a vessel full of sadness.
It's crew can't wait to get ashore,
To avoid vermin, bugs and madness. In short, I love the job I do
Our ship is happy. So,
If you should see us in a port,
Please, come and say "Hello".
