Life in 1003

by Nikita La Femme

I woke up on a pile of nice, warm fur (not mine) with the smell of wood smoke and leather in the air. Looking around, I noticed that the walls of the room I was in slanted to a point at the top of the room. There were various objects in the room, including sticks with feathers on one end, and I debated on checking out the feathers, or investigating the aroma of cooking meat in a pot on a small fire in the center of the room.

The smell of food won, and I strolled to a human, dressed in soft leather, sitting by the fire. After greeting me, she fished out a small piece of meat from the pot, cut it up into small pieces, and put it down in front of me to cool. I took a small bite, chewed carefully, but was not able to identify it. The human smiled at me, and asked softly "Do you like buffalo meat. kitty?" I decided I did, and ate all of it.

I heard the thundering of hooves, and cautiously went to the opening in the wall and peeked out. There were many horses, with humans on their backs, milling about, speaking in a language I did not know. The humans had different colors of paint on their faces, and some of them had headbands with feathers on their heads.

The human who had given me the meat, told me to stay inside, and gave me a bowl of fresh water. I decided that was the safest thing to do.

I spent the day napping, playing with small pieces of leather strings, and peeking out the flap at all the activity out there.

Finally more humans came into the tepee, and we had our evening meal, and I retired to my bed of furs.

As I was dozing off, I was thinking that it had been an interesting day, but I hoped I'd wake up back on my Meowmie's bed, with the sound of a TV playing, and a can opener being used.
