I would like to tell you all about my favourite rodent ...I didn't have much experience
BG..( before garden that is ...) with any wildlife ..but wow I love those hopping mice...
They look like little mice with big ears but actually hop like a tiny kangaroo..they are
native to Australia, and are sadly endangered in some areas ..especially around here.
There are 7 living species of this mouse who is a true rodent and the ones that live in
my yard are called Northern Hopping Mousies, or Notomys Aquilo. They are small and
grey/brown with very long tails and very well developed hind legs. They eat seeds ,insects
amd green shoots.They are nocturnal and live in deep burrows during the day. But that's
okay ..I sleep mainly during the day ..MOL.. They are not hard for a clever cat to catch
but they are hard to keep because meowmie steals them ..she can't catch her own. BUT they
are way fun to chase especially when they hop. They are, for now, my favourite rodent.
