The Neighbor

by Jazmine Taylor

One day, my meowmie's friend Annie came to visit. Normally I like Annie but not this time because she had her beast! The beast was a big black d*g named Zeus.

Normally, I don't mind Zeus, he may be big but he's not to smart. While meowmie and Annie were talking, Zeus was laying on the floor while Bubba, Tabitha and I watched him.

All of the sudden Zeus got up and started walking to my food dish, I growled and all the sudden there was a loud noise and the lights went out! The wind started blowing really hard when there was knock at the door. It was the 10 year old girl next door asking meowmie if she could stay with us until her meowmie came home from the store.

I sat on my kitty tree sat on my kitty tree and watched the storm but kept one eye on Zeus. Bubba and Tabitha were helping by keeping an eye on the little girl. Bubba doesn't like storms but he stayed with everyone.

Suddenly I heard the familiar noise of food crunching but I saw Tabitha and Bubba. I bet it its that dumb Zeus! He may be a lot bigger than me but dumb so I figured I'd need to teach him how to respect a kittys' food.

When I went in the kitchen, I heard the crunching but didn't see a Zeus. I didn't see anyone! Even though the lights were still off a cat has good eyesight and I'm no exception. I kept hearing the crunching but didn't see anyone on 4 or 2 legs. I prowled around the kitchen, jumping on top of cabinets, crawling under things but I still saw nobody.

When the lights finally came back on, I went to inspect the food dishes. To my surprise there was nothing in any of the dishes! I went back to give mom the status on our food and to get more. While I was walking toward meowmie I saw this little thing run by me very fast. It sort of looked like one of our toys but I've never seen our toys move like that unless somebody was playing.

Bubba, Tabitha, Zeus and myself all looked confused because it moved so fast. Meowmie and Annie were looking at us trying to figure out what was wrong. After a long time of silence, the little girl looked up and said "Gilbert escaped from my dress pocket". After that I learned who was eating my food and running so fast...Gilbert the mouse next door.
