Where I Live
by Nikita La Femme
O-kla-homa...where the wind comes sweeping down the plains....well...I
live in Oklahoma, and we sure do have winds, but we don't live on the
plains! We live at the foot of the Cookson Hills in Eastern Oklahoma, near
the border town of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
This is an interesting area, with a history of
outlaws, Indians, gunfighters, and other characters to intrique fans of
the Wild West!
The Rodeo is the social event of the year, and
even small children are expert judges of horses. Many champion Rodeo
riders and Western movie stars were born in this area of the country.
I do not ride horses, but I do enjoy laying on
the porch and watching them in the pasture. I have a perfect view of all
activity outside, from the cows with their baby calves, the many birds
flying around, the squirrels running up and down the trees, and an
occasional skunk marching along undisturbed by anyone! There is also a
herd of deer that hide out near the house during deer season. :-)
My house is warm in the winter, and cool
in the summer, and I have a choice of napping places. I am allowed to do
pretty much anything I want to do, so I'm content and satisfied with my
life.
