Paw Trek 2245

by Spyder

Meows and greetings from the year 2245! My name is Feline767 and my human is named 654-80-5530, but I call her Lucy! She calls me Ethel, she says those are rather historical names from centuries before, from something called "I Love Lucy", which was on that ancient invention called television.

We travel around to various galaxies, meeting others and just exploring the very wide world of the 23rd century. We got a chance to time travel back to the year 2002, and we met some charming cats and humans in a cool place called CLAW! They all wanted to find out about how life is in the future, so we decided to share some of our observations!

For one thing, cat food is very changed! No more messy cans or bags that tear, cat food now is a little tablet, they come in various flavors, and while there isn't much to them, they do taste good, and are very filling.

However, nothing beats a real live 21st century mouse! I got to hunt one down while time traveling, and wow, was that a tasty treat! We don't have anything like that in 2245, although we do have some robotic mice whose prime purpose in life is to patrol for wiring frays in the multiple wiring harnesses required to maintain the mechanized and computerized homes of 2245. They aren't much fun to chase though, and they have no taste at all!

Another change is that the humans don't have to remember to feed us cats, a muchine is preprogrammed to give out the food pills twice a day, and it will even give a treat now and then. But not the same as rubbing and twisting around the humans legs as they prepare the food. That was so much fun! We got to stay in a normal household of 2002 while visiting, and boy was it a riot watching the human try to feed her three cats, as they meowed, jumped on the counter and tried to grab the food!

Another really interesting change is the use of the litter box. Now in 2245, all felines use a toilet similar to the ones the humans use. It sits on the floor, is very easy to use, and no water involved. It uses special moisturized air to flush down the waste, and requires no cleanup or messy litter! Even 23rd century dogs use these, as we have all been inplanted with chips to help us learn all the new technology.

I got a chance to use the old style litter box, and thought it was much neater, all that scratching of litter was fun!

Naturally veterinarians are still around in 2245, but their technology is much different. They, like human doctors, don't do traditional surgery, as everything is done with lasers. Sure makes for quicker recovery time, and very little pain too. Vaccinations are mostly required for those traveling to other galaxies, and they are painless now, just a tiny puff of air in your fur, and you are all set!

One thing that hasn't changed over the centuries is the bond between human and cat. If anything, it is closer than ever. Life in 2245 can be quite sterile, with so many things automated, little real human to human contact, and so much time spent dealing with various machines and computers.

There is nothing like cuddling up with your human and just relaxing! Purring and purring, with the human talking sweet things to you, well, that is something that is very special in the 23rd century just as it is in the 21st century.

I really enjoyed my visit to 2002, and my human and I are thinking of time traveling back there permanently! That way I could join CLAW! We both think that would be more fun than anything we can find in 2245!
