Humans and Me

by BlackJack

I had some owners once, and I am glad I don't remember much about them actually. They must have been nice, because I am gentle and knew about being in the house, but when I was left on the streets, my pleasant memories faded fast. They didn't neuter me, so I was out prowling all the time, and they had me wearing a dog collar. I think they weren't very educated about cats, and when they left me, I knew I wanted to find a home.

I prowled for several years, doing the "tomcat thing", and grew strong and muscular. But as time passed, I grew older, and decided I was sick of being cold, hungry and sleeping on the ground. So, I set my plan in action, and remembered this really nice lady who had fed me a few years back. I remembered her kind voice, and headed back to that house.

Lo and behold, she still lived there, and she recognized me! Hooray!

She had two kitties now, and I befriended them right off the bat. No hissing or spitting, I wanted to move in! Petting, food and fresh water, and I realized just how nice humans could be. When my soon to be meowmie made me up a bed outside, and then brought me in to sit on her lap, I knew I was almost in like flint!

Those hands petting me, that soft voice talking to me, and letting me know I was loved is my very first memory of the wonderful kindness and love that humans can give!
