Not More Cats Mom!

By Lil

My brother and I were only 6 months old when Meowmie decided to bring home two more cats.

At first we were very curious about the creatures in the cardboard carriers. Meowmie took them into the spare bedroom and closed the door. I didn’t like it one bit! This is my house; no doors should be closed to me! The worst part was listening to Meowmie talking to these creatures in that same soft voice usually reserved for my brother Phil or me. That night as we curled up in Meowmie’s bed we heard the noises. At first I didn’t know what they were, but then I knew.

I hear Mewing from the room. Not more cats, Mom! Please say it aint so. But it WAS so.

I became curious and wanted to visit. Eventually one day Meowmie let us visit. But I did not like these new babies because they smelled funny. And besides they were getting too much of Meowmie’s attention.

Gradually they came out of the bedroom for a little longer each day. They were curious little things, exploring MY toys, MY bed and playing with MY humans! I did not like their visits one bit and couldn’t wait for Meowmie to take them back to the store. But that never happened. Everyday I hissed at them.

I finally realized that Meowmie wasn’t going to take them back. I was so mad that I stopped sleeping in Meowmie’s left arm. I was determined to punish her.

Well those little babies were too cute to resist. First Phil caved in. I was disgusted as I looked at him “grooming” Mary Kate. But then I thought it might be fun. I tiptoed over to Mary Kate and Ashley. Ashley ran away from me, she was scared. But Mary Kate stood her ground. I paw patted her to bring her closer. Then I licked her paw. After that she won a place in my heart.

I am now three and one half years old. Mary Kate and Ashley are three years old but I still call them the babies. Most nights you will find me curled next to Meowmie’s left arm like in the old days but with a “baby” curled beside me too. I still have to hiss once in a while, but this is usually at Phil. I have to let the babies know who is in charge around here!

I think I just might let Meowmie keep these creatures a little longer.
