To Catch A Thief
By BlackJack
It was late at night, and the family were all asleep, including Scooter
the
dog and Friskers the cat. All slept soundly, not knowing that outside
their
back door, a thief was carefully picking the lock to come in and rob the
family.
The thief had been very quiet in his illegal entry, but as he opened the
door, it made a small squeak. Scooter, a small but sharp eared Heinz 57
dog,
heard this immediately, as did Friskers, who was a huge yellow kitty who
had
run wild in the streets until finding this great home. These two had
become
the best of friends, and they did everything together and got along
famously.
Scooter and Friskers immediately got up and went to investigate the
sound.
They didn't awaken the family yet, they felt it might be a false alarm, as
their home had always been safe.
Friskers and Scooter crept silently into the living room, and were
astonished
to see a stranger, wearing a ski mask and all black clothing, lifting the
television from the stand. They then saw him grab the stereo, and they
knew
this stranger was up to no good. Conferring quietly, they formulated a
plan.
Friskers would leap onto the man's back, sinking his claws in tight, and
then Scooter would rush out and grab the man's pant leg and hold on tight.
They hoped they could stop this evil stranger from taking their families
possessions.
At a whisker twitch from Friskers, they each made their move. Friskers
leaped high into the air and onto the man's back, his claws sinking in
deep.
The thief almost hit the ceiling as Frisker's claws dug in. At almost the
same moment, Scooter charged out from behind the chair, and grabbed the
man's
pant leg, also grabbing some skin as he dug in for dear life. This
elicited
quite a scream from the thief, who thought he was being beset by some sort
of
spirits of the night. He leaped around crazily, trying to dislodge the
dog
and cat, but to no avail.
As he kept screaming, the father came rushing out, dialing the police as
he
held a pistol and told the thief to stop in his tracks. The thief knew he
was in trouble, and promptly raised his hands above his head, pleading
with
the father to get these "crazed animals" off of him. But the father just
smiled at Scooter and Friskers, and told them to hang on, which they
gladly
did.
Shortly thereafter, the police arrived, and took the now crying thief off
to
jail. The whole family was awake now, and Scooter and Friskers were the
recipients of many hugs and kisses, and such praise they had never heard
before.
Friskers got a lovely treat of a whole can of tuna, and Scooter got a
delicious piece of leftover roast. They both smiled their little smiles,
and
grinned at each other, so proud of having helped out the family that loved
them so much.
A week later, they were also honored by having their pictures in the local
paper as heroes! Friskers sat there with a kitty grin, Scooter with his
doggy grin, as they posed, paw in paw, for their picture. They had truly
proved that dogs and cats can be friends, and were able to really say
Thank
You to their wonderful family.
